How it Works
Building strong communities has strong roots in collaborative involvement. If your community is seeking a public works project or if you are seeking guidance through the process and evaluating artists contact Wendy. Her training and experience in urban revitalization comes from her background with AmeriCorps and developing public works projects for community building.
Tips Prior to Contacting Wendy:
- It helps to have a venue or open green space in mind, and necessary permissions and approvals set in place.
- Time is of the essence! Creating public projects with your community involves planning in advance, school holidays, and considering weather restrictions.
- Have a budget in mind. Consider the time involved, supplies, tools, and guidance provided during the process. Once a budget is set, or a grant is applied for, we are better able to plan for the full project.
- Plan on meeting with Wendy and telling your stories of community. This helps develop a wonderful idea for your neighborhood or town.
Project in Full Swing
- Wendy works with neighborhood associations and the public to build a core group of volunteers who learn each step of the process. There is an open call for one main meeting so stories can be collected from the community. The volunteers work with Wendy to create three preliminary designs from which the community will approve one.
- Full preparation of the space, repairs, and clean up prior to creating the final work will take place.
- Once the public work is complete, a city event will unveil it officially to the public with a speech and celebration.
